Dr. Faten Attig Bahar serves as the Deputy Director of the Future Earth Africa Hub Leadership Center based at the University of Pretoria, Future Africa Campus. She is also a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Economic and Social Research at Rhodes University, South Africa.

Dr. Attig Bahar earned her Ph.D. in Energy Engineering from the University of Carthage, Polytechnic School of Tunisia, and was awarded an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship under the International Climate Protection Program, hosted by the University of Rostock, Germany. Furthermore, she conducted research as a visiting scholar at the ForWind Research Center, University of Oldenburg, and the German Meteorological Service (MetService) in Offenbach.

Additionally, she has held roles as a lecturer and researcher at the University of Carthage's Polytechnic School of Tunisia and the University of El Manar's National Engineering School of Tunisia. Dr. Attig-Bahar brings extensive expertise in renewable energy technologies and modeling, market dynamics and implementation, climate finance, green transitions with a focus on Africa, carbon trading systems, as well as science management and communication.

Dr. Attig-Bahar has also served on several international and continental science committees, including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Research Board on Weather, Climate, Water, and the Environment; the Steering Committee of the Future Earth Water-Energy-Food Nexus Knowledge-Action Network, the Young Earth System Scientists network, and the Africalics Science Board. She also served two successive terms as a Governing Council member of Future Earth and contributed to the Earth Observation Group (GEO) Post-2025 Working Group, which shaped the GEO strategy and direction for the adoption of Earth intelligence solutions.

Furthermore, Dr. Attig-Bahar has co-chaired and actively contributed to a range of science initiatives, including leading efforts to empower young researchers and scientists. She has co-hosted numerous seminars and workshops, conducted both online and in-person- including co-chairing the Sustainability Research and Innovation (SRI) congress Africa Satellite Event since 2023. Additionally, she served as a reviewer for the IPCC reports SOD-WGI-AR6 and SOD-WGII-AR6, lending her expertise to these pivotal publications. Dr. Attig-Bahar also supported the ECR group review of the IPCC report, a collaborative endeavor organized by APECS, MRI, PAGES ECN, PYRN, and YESS.

Beyond her scientific contributions, Dr. Bahar is also a prolific author of children’s literature, with 20 published books in Arabic. Her work has earned her several accolades, including recognition as an outstanding youth author in Tunisia.
