Hobson House is one of the five undergraduate residences that make up the Hobson Cluster, accommodating a total of 75 students.
We are proud to provide a true “home away from home” for students from diverse backgrounds and countries. Our community is rich in culture, and we value the spirit of unity, respect, and togetherness.
Conveniently located in the heart of campus, Hobson House is just a short walk from the Library, most lecture venues, and the Steve Biko Building. We are also neighbours with the Campus Protection Unit and the Health Care Centre. The residence offers 74 single rooms and 1 double room, as well as two common rooms, kitchenettes equipped with a fridge and microwave, and a shared laundry area.
Hobson House places a strong emphasis on academic excellence, personal growth, and community engagement. First-year students have access to a supportive mentorship system, and all students are encouraged to participate in sporting activities and outreach initiatives such as assisting local NGOs and contributing to various charitable drives.
We also celebrate a vibrant social life. Throughout the year, students enjoy a variety of events and traditions, including the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Mocktail evenings, and Karaoke nights, all designed to create a fun, inclusive, and safe environment.
The residence is led by the Residence Head, Dr Fortunate Gunzo, who works closely with a dedicated team of Residence Student Assistants and House Committee Members to uphold the warm and welcoming environment.
