Andrew Todd recently went to Colombia to participate in several International Ergonomics Association events. The events included activities in several Colombian cities. Firstly, there were presentations in Bogota with the Colombian Ergonomics Society focused on future directions on human factors and ergonomics. Secondly there were education forums in Cali with the Universidad de Valle where the focus was on developing new programs in Spanish to address educational shortages in the Ergonomics in Latin America. Thirdly, Andrew participated in presentations in Medellin for SURA (an insurance company in Colombia and several other Latin American countries) for occupational doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other work-related professionals on human factors and ergonomics. Andrew presented on the importance of taking a human factors and ergonomics systems approach to understanding musculoskeletal disorders in the workplace. Lastly, there were two days spent in Cali for the International Ergonomics Association executive committee meeting. Andrew attended the meeting in his capacity as chair of the international development standing committee. Two good days of constructive discussions were had and a strong foundation for the future of ergonomics was laid.
