75th Anniversary fund

The fund is for dependents (biological or formally/legally adopted children for which the staff member has registered them as dependents with the University) of permanent staff members of grade 1-5. Dependents of retired past permanent staff members, medically boarded past permanent staff members and deceased staff members who have died in service are also eligible for the first ten years after the staff member has left the employ of the University. This funding vehicle supports applications of members who:

1.      Post-matric studies at a recognised tertiary institution other than a University resulting in a formal NQF related qualification;

2.      University studies will only be considered in the case where Rhodes does not offer the particular qualification or where the individual has not been allowed to register at Rhodes University due to their matric results;

3.      This fund will not pay for beneficiaries who want to upgrade matric symbols/subjects.

Apart from the above staff development funding vehicles, the following development opportunities are presented:

IsiXhosa course

The course is a joint effort between the Human Resources Development office and the African Language Studies section of the School of Languages, to offer members of staff the opportunity to learn Xhosa in order to be able to converse at a simple level with the University’s vast number of Xhosa speaking staff, numerous students and members of the public.

Drivers licenses

To provide staff members with an appropriate driver license to perform his /her duties as required by the job profile. An external service provider will assist in obtaining the licenses. The following services are offered : leaners licence, Code 08,  Code 10 and professional drivers permit (PdP)
