Summary:

I have strong enthusiasm toward research in nanotechnology with a focus on wastewater treatment, antibacterial, antifungal and larvicidal evaluation studies. Thus, as a result of research, I have practically developed personal skills to work in a team and collaborate with different people.  After completing the PhD, I will share the knowledge gained with African countries through research supervision, seminars, conferences, collaborations, and articles publication within and outside the continent.

Research:

African water resources are being polluted by emerging pollutants entering the environment from different sources, including hospital waste, domestic waste and industrial wastewater. Therefore, there is a great need for development of novel nanoadsorbents that can remove Sulfamethoxazole, diclofenac, atrazine and bisphenol A from wastewater through adsorption process. The presence of emerging contaminants in water resources could pose risks such as the development of antibiotic resistance, toxicity to aquatic life and endocrine disorders to both humans and animals. Therefore, there is a need to develop effective nanoadsorbents that can remove Sulfamethoxazole, diclofenac, atrazine and bisphenol A from wastewater through adsorption technology.

Hence, my PhD project aims to synthesize some magnetic iron oxide based nanocomposites and then it use for the adsorption of Sulfamethoxazole, diclofenac, atrazine and bisphenol A from wastewater.

So far, various magnetic nanocomposites were synthesized. One sample was characterized using SEM/EDX and the result showed that the morphology of the sample contained different structures having 100 percent purity as indicated by EDX.
