Rhodes MA in Creative Writing [MACW]
invites you to a launch and reading of
Because the Night
5.30pm Friday 6th March
at ISEA, St Peters Building
Somerset Street, Grahamstown
Because the Night published by Pocko Editions in London, is Stacy Hardy’s first collection of stories. Because the Night is an intimate, visceral collection giving tiny snapshots of human experience in contemporary South Africa: some are fantastical; some are illuminating; some are startlingly bleak. Sex, as experienced and interpreted by women, is always at the centre of this collection, but Hardy also deftly draws in issues of race, gender, power and need.
Each story is matched with a landscape photograph by Sardinian photographer Mario Pischedda, who has produced a series of nightscapes in which artificial light sources become magical swathes and webs of colour.
Stacy Hardy is an editor at Chimurenga. She teaches fiction in Rhodes University’s MA in Creative Writing programme.
