Studying through the ISER
Thank you for your interest in pursuing post-graduate study with the ISER. Please note that for supervision purposes post-graduate study with the ISER must fit within the research themes that are currently our focus.
We offer two streams
Key themes include: social policy and social citizenship, the universalisation of the public good with special reference to health care, social democracy and welfare state development in South Africa, public private partnerships and social policy, theories and concepts of social policy in an African context and comparative research on social policy in Cuba.
Key research areas under labour studies include: the labour movement, the state, informal and precarious employment, working poverty, education and skills development, and poverty/inequality.
How to apply
Step 1 - Ensure that you register online - http://www.ru.ac.za/postgraduategateway/
Step 2 - submit an application to Mr. Valance Wessels - firstname.lastname@example.org
Applications should include the following:
- Curriculum Vitae
- a short concept note outlining your proposed research topic (please indicate your preferred stream - Social Policy or Labour Studies)
- recent sample of your writing (e.g. dissertation, chapter, article, assignment)
- please indicate intended level of study (Master's or PhD)
Step 3 - your application will be submitted to the ISER research committee which will evaluate your application at the next scheduled meeting
Step 4 - the committee chairperson will inform you whether your application for post-graduate study at the ISER is accepted
Step 5 - once you receive an email from the registrar's office please follow the instruction to register formally
