Rhodes University Graduate excels in the Professional Practice Examination

Rhodes University graduate Carmen Krull came second out of 2 798 candidates who wrote the 2009 Public Practice Examination (PPE).The results were released on Friday 26 February by the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.

Krull studied at Rhodes from 2004 to 2007 obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and postgraduate Diploma in Accounting. She is currently completing her training contract with PricewaterhouseCoopers in East London.

The Head of the Department of Accounting, Professor John Williams, was extremely pleased and proud of Krull's achievements, "Carmen consistently achieved outstanding results throughout her studies at Rhodes. Her success in the PPE examination is well deserved. We are very proud of her achievements".

Prof Williams notably added that the Department has less of an influence on how our students fair in the PPE exam than in Part 1 of the qualifying exam as Part 2 is written 18 months after completing their DipAcc.

Krull's achievement coupled with those of Amar Naik, who came 6th in the 2009 Part 1 examination and Munyaradzi Muvezwa, who came 3rd in the Part 2 Financial Management examination in 2008 is a testament to the quality of our students and the teaching that they received while they were at Rhodes.

Passing the Public Practice Examination is one of the statutory requirements for registering as a Chartered Accountant and Registered Auditor. The Public Practice Examination is written in November each year for candidates who have successfully passed Part 1 of the Qualifying Examination of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and have served at least 18 months of their training contract.
