Accounting students make Rhodes proud

By Harriet Knight

Rhodes University graduate Carmen Krull came second out of 2 798 candidates who wrote the 2009 Public Practice Examination. She was among the twenty nine of thirty Rhodes students who wrote and passed their Public Practice Examination (PPE) exam.

Additionally, two students who wrote Part 2 of the financial management exam also passed.

Professor John Williams, the Head of the Department of Accounting, is delighted with the overall pass rate. Along with the high pass rate is the elevated score levels achieved by some of the students.

Carmen's achievement coupled with those of Amar Naik, who came 6th in the 2009 Part 1 examination and Munyaradzi Muvezwa, who came 3rd in the Part 2 Financial Management examination in 2008 is a testament to the quality of our students and the teaching they received while they were at Rhodes.

Passing the Public Practice Examination is one of the statutory requirements for registering as a chartered accountant and registered auditor. The Public Practice Examination is written in November each year for candidates who have successfully passed Part 1 of the Qualifying Examination of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and have served at least 18 months of their training contract.
