Dr Saleem Badat, Rhodes University Vice-Chancellor, is to address the South African youth during the second session of the FrankTalk Radio Dialogue series organised jointly by the Steve Biko Foundation (SBF) and YFM radio station.
The theme of the FrankTalk Radio Dialogue which takes place today (30 October, 2012), in Sandton, Johannesburg, is Banning and Banishment. The dialogue is designed to engage young people on socio-economic and political issues.
This year, the annual Radio Dialogue commemorates the 35th Anniversary of October 19, 1977, Black Wednesday.
According to the SBF, 19 October 1977 is significant since it was the year that the apartheid regime banned several newspapers such as The World and Weekend World, alongside 19 black organisations, as part of a massive attempt on the part of the Apartheid state to silenced black political parties and critics.
Dr Badat’s invitation to take part in the session follows the recent publication of his latest book, The Forgotten People: Political Banishment under Apartheid.
Also taking part in the dialogue will be Mr Kenny Rachidi a former leader of the Black People’s Convention, which was one of the organisations that was banned in 1977, and Ms Ntsiki Sisulu, granddaughter to the late Walter and Albertina Sisulu.
The YFM Current Affairs show host, Faith Mangope, will moderate the discussion.
