Professor Donald Nicolson was appointed a visiting professor at Rhodes Law Faculty in 2015. He is currently the Director of the Law Clinic at the University of Essex. He obtained his BA and LLB from the University of Cape Town, and his PhD from Cambridge. Prior to joining the University of Essex, he lectured and set up law clinics at the Universities of Strathclyde and Bristol. His research areas are diverse, and he has published numerous articles and books, both co-authored and single-authored/edited on lawyers' ethics, clinical legal education, affirmative action, evidence in Scotland, evidence theory, criminal law, law and gender, feminist legal theory and adjudication. He is on the editorial board of Legal Ethics and the International Journal of the Legal Profession and a trustee of the Clinical Legal Education Organisation. In 2011, Donald was awarded an OBE for services to the legal profession.
