Ms B.P. Padayachi BA (UNISA), LLB (University of Natal)
Brahmi Padayachi joined the Rhodes Law Faculty in October 2011 and will be teaching the Law of Persons, Life Partnerships, Criminal Procedure A and Professional Ethics.
Between 2004 and 2011 she has held positions as an Assessor in the Cape High Court and the Land Claims Court of South Africa; Director of Restorative Justice in the Policy Unit: Vulnerable Groups, of the National Department of Justice and Constitutional Development; Acting Magistrate in the Child Justice, Domestic Violence and Maintenance Courts and is an internationally accredited Civil Mediator ADR (UK).
After completing articles in Pietermaritzburg she lectured at the University of the Western Cape and Durban University of Technology.
At LLM level her research experience includes Constitutional Law, Law and Medical Practice, Trial Advocacy and a pass with distinction in Legal Education, the coursework component of a Law Teaching LLM that was run jointly by the Faculties of Law and Education at the University of Natal.
Her interests are in Restorative Justice, Court based Mediation and Collaborative Law approaches to best practice in Applied Family Law to dispute resolution in Family, Child Justice and Domestic Violence litigation with special focus on the best interests of the child.
