Graduation 2016: Congratulations to all our recent graduates


The Department of Mathematics would like to congratulate its students who graduated in 2016.
This year, 17 students graduated with a BSc, majoring in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, 5 of which obtained distinctions. In addition, our Honours class did very well, with 4 graduates.

We are also delighted to congratulate two new MSc graduates:

      - Mrs Michelle Funcke, with a thesis on 'Cosmological structure formation using spectral methods';

      - Mr Sithembele Nkonkobe, with a thesis on 'Restricted barred preferential arrangements and their relations to some well-known integer sequences'.

Finally, we would like to welcome as a new doctor, Dr Landman Bester who successfully completed a PhD thesis on 'Observational cosmology with imperfect data'.

As part of the graduation, the Department also awards various prizes. The 2016 winners are:

      - Joe King Prize (Most improved student between second and third year): Ms Vuyo Matiwane

      - David Williams Memorial Prize (Best 3rd year result): Mr Adriaan Slabbert

      - Sydney Cruise Memorial Prize (Best 2nd year result): Ms Alexes Mes

      - Helmut Weigert Memorial Prize (Best 1st year result): Ms Elisa Kirigin.
