Special Session: In honour of Prof Jim McKenzie (1938 - 2015)

 

Prof Jim McKenzie 

Professor Jim McKenzie, who passed away on 3 February 2015, would have been 80 on 1 May this year. He was Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics at the University of Natal, Durban, from 1981 to 1998. This Special Session in honour of Jim McKenzie is in recognition of the significant contribution he made to the development of applied mathematics in South Africa through his research, supervision of graduate students and mentoring of young academics. His research interests were in fluid mechanics, magnetohydrodynamics, special and general relativity, plasma physics, solar and planetary sciences, solar wind theory, shock waves, nonlinear waves in complex plasmas, solitons and differential equations. Presentations in any of these areas of research will be considered.
