Introduction

The praying mantises of southern Africa are currently classified into seven families, several of which have not been recorded in South Africa itself. The list of species is compiled from Kaltenbach (1996), and includes many species (indicated by yellow markers) that have not been recorded from South Africa, but which may be present.
