The Department of Music and Musicology presents three South African performers, Christian Bester (Baritone), Jo-Nette Le Kay (Soprano) and Catherine Foxcroft (piano) in an exuberant recital of American Art Songs and Opera extracts. Visiting guest performer, Christian Bester has established an international career as a performer and lecturer in voice in the USA. He holds a DMA from North Texas University in Performance and Opera as well as a MMus in Vocal Performance from South Methodist University, Dallas. He is currently visiting professor in voice at Baylor University, Wacu and is the Artistic Director at Voces Intimae: The Art of Song – Dallas. The concert will feature a variety of compositional styles and regional flavours of American art song composers including Aaron Copland, Charles Griffes, Leonard Bernstein, Paul Bowels and Shawn E. Okpebholo. After a short interval, Jo-Nette Le Kay will join Christian in performing opera solos and duets from Don Pasquale, Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Giovanni and La Rondine. Catherine Foxcroft will be accompanying the singers throughout the recital.
