First Year Information
Information for first year BA & BSC students
Music, Culture, History: Half credit and full credit options.
MCH 1 consists of four independent semester long modules. These are Western Art Music (MCH1 HM); Music Health and the Brain (MCH 1 MH); Ethnomusicology (MCH 1 ET) and Jazz (MCH 1 JZ). For further information about the content of these courses please scroll down the page.
Any ONE of these modules may be taken on its own to earn a half-credit in the Humanities or Science Faculty.
To earn a full credit students may take any TWO modules, ideally one from the first semester and one from the second.
Options 1 for the first and second semester are timetabled in the same afternoon slots. Options 2 for the first and second semester are timetabled in the same morning slots.
*From 2018 onwards students may take the remaining two modules at second year level to earn a credit in MCH 2. Classes will be taught to a combined cohort of first and second year students but the different levels will be assessed via different assignments and exams.
