The NANOAFRICA 2014 Conference took place at the Quest Conference Estate in Vanderbijlpark from 30th March to 2nd April 2014, with Vaal University of Technology as the host.

Distinguished Professor Tebello Nyokong was one of the plenary speakers at the conference and gave a lecture on “Conjugates of Nanoparticles with Phthalocyanine Dyes for Cancer Therapy”.  Other students who attend the conference were Ms Gugu Kubheka, Ms Siphesihle Robin Nxele, Mr Zane Watkins and Mr Martijn Wildervanck, all 1st year Masters students. Ms Gugu Kubheka won an award for the best student presentation.

The conference always attract international and local researchers from areas of quantum dots, carbon nanotubes, nanoparticles in medicine and water, catalysis and so forth. Previously the number of delegates were about 200.
