Biography
I am an experienced Foundation Phase teacher who is currently teaching preservice teachers at RU. I have been involved in literacy programmes to gain better ways of equipping FP learners with various literacies. These include READ, Molteno, and Funda Wande, and Centre for African Literacy Teaching. I joined Nelson Mandela Institute, an NGO that specialises in developing material, training, and supporting teachers in previously disadvantaged areas. As an nGAP scholar at Nelson Mandela University I learnt more about teaching across the curriculum, multilingualism, teaching diverse students, research, community engagement as well as publishing. We engaged with schools to support them with isiXhosa literacy teaching. I was a Grade R Diploma Tutor for SANTS Private Institution and that capacitated me more about 4IR. As a PhD student and Thuthuka Grant holder I intend to develop a culturally informed literacy pedagogy that can be aligned to the school curriculum.
