South African Association of Political Studies (SAAPS) 15th Biennial Conference
RETHINKING POLITICS IN A TIME OF CRISIS
Venue: Virtual Conference hosted by Rhodes University
Dates: 26–28 August 2021
We look forward to hosting conference delegates at our virtual conference.
- Professor Shireen Hassim (Canada 150 Research Chair in Gender and African Politics at Carleton University in Canada),
- Judith February (Lawyer, governance specialist, columnist and visiting fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand’s School of Governance), and
- Professor Siba Grovogui (Professor of International Relations Theory and Law at Cornell University, USA, and Nelson Mandela Visiting Professor in the Department of Political and International Studies at Rhodes University).
We have just set up some social media accounts to generate interest in the conference. You can follow these accounts here:

Due to the virtual format, we will be able to open up the conference to a broader range of people than is usually the case. While SAAPS membership is a requirement for all those presenting at the conference, attendance will be opened up for those who are not SAAPS members. In particular, we encourage postgraduate students, who are often unable to afford to attend such conferences, to attend. In the build-up to the conference (and when the programme is released), please share the details with your colleagues and students and encourage them to attend. Formal conference registration will not be necessary for those who simply want to attend some of the sessions.
To be added to the conference mailing list or for any other queries please contact: email@example.com.
