WELCOME TO ADAMSON HOUSE

On behalf of the Jan Smuts Hall staff, we welcome you to Adamson House. We are pleased that you will be living with us. The Adamson House staff is excited to for your arrival and eager to assist you in experiencing a rewarding residence life in Jan Smuts Hall. We are affectionately referred to by our esteemed students as the ‘Gentlemen res’.  From the day you arrive you are an integral member of our community because of the positive energy, ideas, and contributions you bring. This website will help you learn more about what the Adamson community offers and how you can make your residence experience the very best. Adamson House is nestled in the centre of Rhodes University campus and our proximity is what many students appreciate about us. It is a small quite environment which is home to 57 students who enjoy the privacy of their rooms. Our house offers great opportunities for involvement, leadership development, and socializing. We strive to actively support diverse and socially just communities where all members feel safe and valued.

Academic imitativeness

Interested in forming a study group with other students? Our Academic Rep will help! One of our most important jobs is to help you be successful academically. Most students need help at some point, so do not be afraid to speak up.

  • 55 single standard rooms, 1 double room
  • Each room is fully carpeted and has an electric heater
  • Each room is equipped with an internet socket (internet available at a fee)
  • Laundry facility conveniently located in the building
  • 2 Common rooms (printer, urn, microwave, TV (M-net and DSTV), pool table)
  • Bed linen provided and changed weekly
