Rhodes University Top 100 students

The Oppidan Press (inspired by the Mail & Guardian's top 300 young people in South Africa and supported by the Dean of Students) would like to recognise the 2009 Rhodes University Top 100 Students. The Oppidan Press would like to recognize leadership potential and exceptional extramural achievements or contributions by students. We are looking for outstanding students who personify the University’s slogan “Where leaders learn and students who have contributed a lot of time and effort to the quality of life on this campus. Students need to show the above mentioned qualities in any one of the following categories:

  1. Media and entertainment
  2. Sports
  3. Arts and culture
  4. Academic excellence
  5. Community engagement
  6. Activism
  7. Student entrepreneurism
  8. Politics and leadership
  9. General

This is a prestigious list and only the most deserving students will be honoured. So students need to make an EFFORT and send in exceptional applications.

Students wishing to be considered for this prestigious list must apply for it or be nominated, they must send in their CV, a detailed list of extramural achievements in any of the listed categories, a letter of endorsement, clear face photograph and any additional documents that will further demonstrate the student’s leadership qualities. The student’s disciplinary record may be taken into account by the DoS office.

Awards

The selected Rhodes University Top 100 Students, including the winners of the Dean of Students' Leadership Awards,  will be published in a special edition of The Oppidan Press. The students will be listed under the category that they are leaders in, a face picture and a mini profile of the student will be published.

The Rhodes University Top 100 Students will be invited to an award ceremony hosted by the Deans of Students' Office during SWOT Week, where they will be handed certificates of recognition.

So go on and prepare those applications. This could be your one moment of fame. Again this is a prestigious and honourable list and ONLY the most deserving students will be honoured.
