Library Update

Study space

This is limited to 359 seats, excluding computer stations, in the new section (Short Loan Reading Room, Commerce section and Information Commons). The refurbishment of the remaining sections of the old building is due for completion in July. Students may need to seek alternative study space on campus e.g. seminar venues in some departments and in the Steve Biko Building during the exam period.

Extended opening hours during exams

The Library is only able to offer extended opening hours from 16 to 30 May due to limited staffing capacity.

Access control

This has now been implemented at the entrance and exit to the Library. Students whose cards are not enabled on the system will need to sign in and leave their details at the Security Counter. Access control is not intended to keep anyone out of the Library but has become necessary to improve security – the safety of students and staff and the safeguarding of Library materials and property.

Accessing electronic journals

A new A-Z service for finding e-journals, called SFX, has recently been implemented. This replaces the Ebsco A-Z service. It provides access to over 30,000 journals. Read more about this service on the Library’s website or link directly to Find e-Journal (the SFX A-Z service).
