DIGS LEASE WORKSHOP

The Lease Workshop is a workshop that is organised twice every year by the Oppidan Committee. It is held at the beginning of the year during Orientation week and in third term.

The objectives of the workshop are as follows:

  • To educate students on what to look out for when searching for digs
  • To educate students about lease contracts
  • To educate students about their rights as tenants
  • To educate students about their responsibilities as tenants
  • To educate students about their responsibilities as neighbours and as part of the Grahamstown community at large.

The workshop held in third term is targeted at residence students who intend to move into digs the following year and Oppidans in general. It is especially important for residence students to attend this workshop and familiarise themselves with the workings of staying off campus. There is a general perception amongst residence students that staying off campus entails no responsibilities except paying rent and that they are free from Rhodes' rules and regulations. Furthermore, students need to be educated about their responsibilities as neighbours and as part of the Grahamstown community at large. This is also part of a greater effort to promote a good working relationship between 'town and gown'.

The Lease Workshop will be held on:

Thursday the 5th of August
19h00
Barrat 3.
