Invitation to provincial Women's Day celebrations

Every year on the 09th of August, South African communities celebrate the National Women’s Day to mark the history and honour the legacy that was left behind by a large number of brave South African women who marched to Pretoria against the extension of pass laws to African women.

The Ministry of women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Provincial Women’s Caucus and Provincial Government Departments are organizing Women’s Day Celebrations.

This year’s celebrations will be preceded by the Lillian Ngoyi Memorial Lecture targeting 800 young women in all institutions of higher learning around the province. The lecture will be about one of the women who led the anti-pass march on the Union Buildings in Pretoria, the woman who played a leading role in the resistance to unjust pass laws which severely affected women in society as well as the African family life.

We therefore request the participation of 50 young women from your institution. We also kindly request your assistance by advising us on the person to liaise with the organizing committee to facilitate transportation of the attending young women. The event will be at:

Venue: Walter Sisulu University – Berlin

Date: 08/08/10

Time: 10h00

All food and transport costs will be covered. Your participation will be highly appreciated.

If you are interested in attending please contact Pumeza Mdangayi at md.panafricanyouthdialogue@gmail.com before 2 August to secure your place. Transport will leave from the Biko Building at 7 am on Sunday 8 August.
