Winchester House will be hosting its Annual Touch Rugby Tournament on Friday, 24 September. This annual event is aimed at raising funds for any charitable purpose within the community of Grahamstown. This year, Amasango School, was chosen as the sole beneficiary of this event. Amasango is a school for homeless children in Grahamstown situated near the railway station. The school clothes, feeds and schools children of various ages. The community engagement portfolio of Winchester House has targeted all of its projects this year towards assisting the school with various initiatives including a vegetable garden and grocery donations. An appeal is made to all in the Rhodes campus and beyond to join in the day of fun and awesomeness for what is a good and noble cause.
The registration fee for each team of seven members in the tournament is R 15.00 per person in a team. All proceeds will go directly to Amasango School. The tournament will accommodate no more than 24 teams. All teams must consist of no less than two members who are of the opposite gender to other members in a team. Only five members, with a gender ratio of 4:1, will be allowed on the field during a match with the option of rolling substitutes. Prizes will be awarded to the teams that finish in third, second and first place. The prizes are currently as follows:
- 1st – R 500 cash, R 500 Pick n’ Pay voucher and R 350 Spur voucher.
- 2nd – R 300 cash, R 390 Steers voucher
- 3rd – R 200 cash, R 140 Spur voucher
