Confucius Institute Scholarships Awarded

On recommendation of the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University, Siobhan Lumsden and Daniel Charvat have both been awarded the Confucius Institute Scholarship for 2009 by the Headquarters of Confucius Institute in Beijing.  Earlier this year, Lumsden and Charvat competed in the 8th Chinese Bridge competition held in the University of the Western Cape. They impressed the judges and along with her outstanding results in Chinese 1, they were awarded the Confucius Institute Scholarship to study abroad in China. Lumsden left for China in early September where she will study at Jinan University. Situated in Guangzhou, China, Jinan University is Rhodes University's sister university. The Confucius Institute at Rhodes University was started up in the beginning of this year and offers a full credit course in Chinese studies.
