Student Presentation

During China Week, a few members of the Chinese Studies 1 class were afforded the opportunity to present their travels of China to Ambassador Zhong Jianhua of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China. The ambassador flew down to Rhodes for two days to see how the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University has been managing. He was given a multimedia presentation by seven participants of the 2009 China trip.

Ambassador Zhong

Students presented bilingually to an audience consisting primarily of members of the Chinese Embassy and a delegation from Jinan University in Guangzhou, China. The presentation consisted of a visual introduction to the tour that the students participated in, as well as demonstrations in Chinese singing, martial arts and Tai-chi.  The ambassador was extremely impressed with the performance and commended the students highly. He went on to say that he was in awe of the student’s grasp of Chinese after such a short space of time.

The Confucius Institute at Rhodes University and members of the Chinese class are highly grateful for the time Ambassador Zhong took out of his schedule to speak to us. The involvement by the ambassador in our affairs is encouraging and we certainly feel privileged.
