Ms. Zou Hanyang's expedition to Alexandria, Kenton-on-Sea and Port-Alfred

Ms. Zou Hanyang enthusiastically joined the French 3 Class during their annual tourism excursion. This tradition offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in fresh experiences while exploring various destinations in the Eastern Cape, culminating in a creative project inspired by their journey. This year, the French 3 class embarked on a captivating journey to three remarkable places: Alexandria, Kenton-on-Sea, and Port Alfred.

In Alexandria, the class had the privilege of visiting the Quin Sculpture Garden, showcasing the splendid artworks crafted by Maurren Quin throughout recent years. This extraordinary garden proudly features an impressive collection of over 100 sculptures, paintings, and sketches thoughtfully arranged for all to admire. This curated collection grants visitors a visual voyage through the various stages of Maurren Quin's artistic evolution over the course of her life. Ms. Zou Hanyang remarked on the enchanting beauty of Alexandria's picturesque landscape. The serene ambiance of the place provided an ideal setting for relaxation. "I have developed a deeper appreciation for Ms. Quin's sculptures," she shared.

Following their exploration, the class paused for a brief lunch break at Ezakwantu Food, where they enjoyed delicious local food from Alexandria. Ms. Zou Hanyang praised the local cuisine as one of the trip's standout experiences. "Mama was very hospitable," she added. Energised and recharged, the class then continued their journey to Kenton-on-Sea, where they had a great time on the beautiful beach and soft sand. Ms. Zou Hanyang shared her thoughts, expressing that Kenton on Sea provided a delightful and coastal town experience. She remarked, "Kenton on Sea introduced me to the allure of smaller coastal towns and their distinctive way of life."

The class made a stop in Port Alfred, where students had a great time exploring Rosehill Mall. Afterwards, they headed to their final destination, the Big Pineapple in Bathurst, which is just a 15-minute drive from Port Alfred. This unique tourist spot boasts the title of being the world's largest artificial pineapple. Ms. Zou Hanyang enthusiastically shared her thoughts, expressing that the Big Pineapple was unquestionably a “one-of-a-kind destination”. Its immense size and the opportunity to delve into the intricacies of pineapple farming left a lasting impression. “Visiting the Big Pineapple provided an educational insight into pineapple cultivation, and I gained valuable knowledge about the local agriculture industry”, she added.

As the year approaches its end, Ms. Zou Hanyang will be saying her farewells. She expressed her immense delight in this journey, with a special fondness for Makhanda. She commented, “the warmth and friendliness of everyone here have left a lasting impression. I feel truly embraced, and upon my return to China, I'll enthusiastically share my experiences of Makhanda, cherishing the memories of my time here”.
