Why can't MBA students write?

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article about how business schools in the USA are focusing more and more on writing skills in their MBA programmes, as a result of complaints from employers that graduates lacked the ability to write clearly and persuasively.  They say these students "tend to ramble, use pretentious vocabulary or pen too-casual emails". This is one of the reasons why the English Language and Linguistics department began offering the Professional Communication course, which helps Commerce undergraduate students improve their competence in spoken and written communication for the business world.
