On Monday 9 May, Maxine Diemer was awarded the Van Schaik Prize for the top student in the 2010 Ling 1 class who continued to Ling 2 this year. Angelo Elbrug, a Senior Sales Assistant from Van Schaik Grahamstown; Prof Ralph Adendorff, the head of the Department of English Language and Linguistics; and Dr Zhaleh Feizollahi, the Ling 2 co-ordinator, visited a Ling 2 lecture to present the prize to Maxine.
Maxine was given a mark of 89% for Linguistics 1. Elbrug was extremely excited to hand her the prize, to the value of R1 000, sponsored by Van Schaik bookstores.
