Art POWA Network

Art POWA is a writing and publishing support network for Africa-based scholars in the visual arts. The core aims of the network are to share resources on writing and publishing, to encourage collaboration, and to raise the visibility of scholars and arts writers on local and international platforms.

Participation is open to all Africa-based writers who engage with the visual and performing arts, regardless of institutional affiliation. While the emphasis is on scholarly writing due to the lack of support in this area, it does not exclude other forms of writing in the arts.

Art POWA was founded in 2017 and it grows out of the Publishing and Research of the South: Positioning Africa (PROSPA) programme run by the Arts of Africa and Global Souths research team at Rhodes University in South Africa.

Art POWA and PROSPA receive generous funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
