Zamansele Nsele

Doctoral Researcher

Zamansele Nsele is reading towards a PhD in Art History and Visual Culture. She has presented academic papers at conferences and colloquiums in South Africa and in the UK. Her research interests range from popular culture to decolonial aesthetics, visuality and the aesthetics of blackface in art practice and performance. Her doctoral research looks into an emerging post-apartheid nostalgic turn in art and curatorial practice and explores the various ways that post-apartheid nostalgia calls upon ethical considerations, particularly in relation to archival art. Nsele is interested in the decolonising methodologies in contemporary visual art which potentially enable liberatory praxis.
