Honours Student

Snelihle Maphumulo, born and raised in Durban, KZN, is a fourth-year Fine Art student majoring in Fine Art Practice and Art History & Visual Culture at Rhodes University. She is currently shaping and exploring her craft in the sculpture department. Her research interest includes the topic of identity in culture, black feminism, and power relations within cultural homes. She is passionate about gaining more knowledge about these discourses concerning her research interest and tracing her roots in the Zulu culture.

Her body of work encompasses mediums such as wax and found material. Through this, she challenges the process of art making in sculpture while exploring mediums such as clay and resin. One of Snelihle's previous works was exhibited at the National Arts Festival as part of the student exhibitions. As an emerging artist, she looks forward to interacting with other artists and embracing her artistic journey.
