Simone Heymans completed her MFA with distinction at Rhodes University in 2013 as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts with two distinctions and a third major in Philosophy in 2011. She is a member of the Golden Key and has placement on the Dean’s Merit list. Simone was a runner up in Professor Simbao's fourth year course essay competition, China and Africa: 'Place', Transnationalism and the Global South, which she presented during the Rhodes University Confucius Institute China week (2011). She participated in a two-month collaborative printmaking internship at Warren Editions in Cape Town in 2012, and is currently working as a freelance artist in the Western Cape. Her MFA supervisors were Prof Simbao (theory) and Prof Dominic Thorburn (practice).
