Caryn Lé Kay, born and raised in George, Western Cape, recently graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Art at Rhodes University.

After completing her undergraduate studies, Lé Kay decided to further her studies by enrolling in the Masters in Fine Art Practice programme, where she got accepted and is currently in the process of creating a body of work.

Her research interest continues to examine the reality of gender-based violence, safe spaces, protest activism and power relations in South Africa. Most passionate about these discourses, Lé Kay looks at it from a place of understanding the hardship and pain womxn in South Africa undergo, being a womxn herself.

Lé Kay’s practice encompasses mediums such as: found material, undergarments, clay and plaster of pairs.  Having a background in sculpture and ceramics, she tends to challenge and subvert traditional forms of art production by shape-shifting them to appeal to an upcoming change-hungry generation.
