Orientation Week 2026 is off to a remarkable start following the successful completion of Session 1 of the Career Centre’s “Mapping Your Career Journey” workshop for first-year students. The session drew overwhelming interest, with the venue filled beyond capacity as students gathered with enthusiasm to begin shaping their academic and professional futures.

From the outset, the atmosphere reflected a cohort ready to engage. Students listened attentively, participated actively, and posed thoughtful questions that signaled a strong commitment to intentional career planning. Discussions ranged from how to become multi-skilled within degrees often perceived as narrow, to gaining clarity on career assessments, understanding their registered qualifications, and learning how to access the full range of Career Centre services.

Notably, many students expressed early interest in developing their CVs and establishing professional LinkedIn profiles, demonstrating a growing awareness that employability is cultivated from the first year of study. This proactive mindset aligns closely with the evolving demands of the 21st-century world of work, where adaptability, self-awareness, and continuous development are essential.

The workshop was designed to be brief yet impactful, offering an experience that was educational, relevant, inspiring, and empowering. More importantly, it created a welcoming space where students felt comfortable asking questions and reflecting meaningfully on their future paths. Witnessing first-year students engage so deliberately with both their degrees and career possibilities reaffirmed the importance of embedding career development early in the student experience.

As Orientation Week continues, the Career Centre looks forward to building on this momentum through further sessions and ongoing engagement. These initiatives form part of a broader commitment to providing students with the guidance, tools, and confidence needed to navigate university life with purpose and clarity.
