Rhodes University produces graduates who are critically engaged, socially conscious, and academically rigorous. Despite this, many graduates face challenges transitioning from university to the world of work due to limited access to professional networks, uneven exposure to employers, and a constrained graduate labour market. These challenges are often more pronounced for students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Rhodes University Graduate Recruitment Programme is conceptualised as a structured, university-led initiative aimed at strengthening pathways between Rhodes University graduates and employment opportunities across the public, private, and social sectors. The programme seeks to intentionally position Rhodes graduates as competitive, work-ready candidates while supporting employers to access high-quality, values-driven talent.

The programme aligns with the University’s commitment to graduate success, transformation, and social responsiveness, and builds on the work of the Career Centre and associated student development initiatives.

The primary purpose of the Rhodes University Graduate Recruitment Programme is to facilitate the transition of final-year students and recent graduates into meaningful employment, graduate programmes, internships, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

The programme aims to:

  • Improve graduate employability and work-readiness
  • Strengthen institutional relationships with employers and industry partners
  • Increase graduate placement outcomes
  • Promote inclusive access to graduate opportunities
  • Showcase the distinctive attributes of Rhodes University graduates
  • Create a centralised platform for graduate recruitment engagement at Rhodes University
  • Prepare students and graduates through targeted employability interventions
  • Connect employers with a curated pool of Rhodes University talent
  • Support graduates in navigating recruitment processes successfully
  • Track graduate outcomes to inform institutional planning and reporting

The programme also offers services to employers seeking to engage Rhodes University students. These services can be found here:
