Rhodes University has been informed by the Makana Municipality consulting engineers that while the repair team is working round the clock to repair the pipe, the repair is going to take longer than anticipated.
The latest estimate is that the repair work will be completed by late Tuesday afternoon (26 August, 2014). If the repair is successful, pumping will resume into the reservoirs.
As mentioned in yesterday’s communiqué, it will take another two days after this to normalize the supply of water.
Water supply will be restored progressively from the low areas of town to the high-lying areas of town as the levels in the reservoirs increase.
We are very grateful that water is being supplied to the residences, and we are continuing to fill the water tanks on the rest of campus on a rotation basis.
The University officials are in constant communication with the municipal officials.
In the meantime the water restrictions remain in place.
