Water Update: 20 August 2013

The situation in our 5 affected residences has improved, and water continues to flow into their tanks. Our students are very grateful for the many offers from staff and Grahamstonians to ‘adopt’ them, and many of them have enjoyed long hot showers and laundry services as a result – thank you!

Several washing machines have been moved from the lower floors of adjoining residences and temporarily installed in the Desmond Tutu Dining Hall, where they can be accessed by all affected students.  Orders have already been placed so that 2 machines can be permanently installed there.  6 showers in the Continuing Education Centre have also been made available to students.

Officials are optimistic that the water pressure will normalise by the end of the day, but the Regional Director of Water Affairs has emphasized that the Waainek pump remains ‘extremely vulnerable’ to further break-downs.
