Reminder to the university community that this week is Disability Week(15-19 May). Since its inception in 2015, this is the third time that Rhodes University will be observing this week. The following activities will take place during the week:

Me Before You (Movie Screening and discussion: to highlight how the media perpetuates gender-based stereotypes about physically disabled people)

Decolonising Disability Politics Matters
As part of the Disability Week, Desire Chiwandire (PhD Candidate at the Department of Political and International Studies) will make his lectures for the 2nd years Politics course: Decolonising Disability Politics Matters open to everyone as a way of raising awareness around disability issues to the whole Rhodes University community. During the lectures , Rhodes university students with disabilities have been invited to come and share their lived experiences of living with a disability in an open dialogue form particularly in relation to how they are faring in the university environment from both an academic and social inclusion standpoint.
The lectures will be taking place in Barrat 1 Lecture Theatre on:
Wednesday(17 May 2017) at 14:15-15:00 (Period 7)
Thursday(18 May 2017) at 15:10-15:55 (Period 8)
Friday(19 May 2017) at 12:20-13:05 (Period 6).
We will also be running a competition where you can stand a chance to win a voucher to Saint’s Bistro , all you need to do is spot Rhodie, the Rhodes mascot, take a picture with him and tag us on our Transformation Summit Disability facebook page with a comment, question or suggestion relating to Transformation matters relating to Disability matters at Rhodes.
