ANC wants TVET colleges to be more appealing

The African National Congress (ANC) says it wants to make Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges more appealing than universities.

At the moment TVET colleges are treated as a plan-B by the majority of students when they fail to secure a place at universities. ANC Head of Policy Jeff Radebe says they want to see an improvement in the quality of education at colleges.

Radebe says, “The technical and vocational training must be marketed as the first choice leading to attractive career options for the majority of learners ahead of university education and that a new financial support model to ensure that academically capable poor working class and middle strata students are supported to access higher education must be finalised and implemented by year 2020.”
