JOHANNESBURG - Students at the North West University’s Mafikeng campus are moving back to the residences as the tertiary institution prepares to resume classes tomorrow, five weeks after closing its doors due to violent protests.

Last month students who were unhappy about the inauguration of a new student representative council set fire to the science building and vandalised other property on campus.

Management suspended the academic programme due to safety concerns.

University spokesperson Koos Degenaar says security has already been stepped up as students begin arriving at their residences.

“We will resume with classes and the new semester tomorrow. We have already deployed extra security on campus
