UWC and CPUT suspend all academic activity

CAPE TOWN - The University of the Western Cape (UWC) has suspended all academic activity due to student protests.

At the same time, the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT)has sent its staff home.

Classes at both institutions have been disrupted this week due to the demonstrations.

UWC management has advised staff to report to line managers regarding plans to continue operations.

Protesting students blockaded entrances this morning and disrupted lectures.

The demonstrators have submitted a list of demands to management including the scrapping of student debt.

 

 

At CPUT, human faeces was dumped in some buildings this morning.

Students there are also expected to meet vice-chancellor Prins Nevhutalu this afternoon to discuss their demands.
