AFRASIA Strategic Partner Consultation and Framework Co-Creation Workshop

The workshop sought to strengthen institutional partnerships, align strategic priorities, and co-create a coherent framework for sustained Asia-Africa cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. It emphasised the need to move beyond fragmented initiatives toward structured, mission-oriented partnerships owned and driven by Global South institutions. Strategic partner presentations by leading agencies and universities highlighted complementary mandates, existing programmes, and institutional strengths, while the subsequent open dialogue surfaced opportunities for alignment, co-funding, and joint programming across regions. These exchanges underscored that while capacities vary, there is strong convergence around shared development priorities and a collective appetite for deeper South-South collaboration.

The workshop concluded with a plenary consolidation session that integrated insights from across the day. Partners reached a broad consensus on the strategic value of AFRASIA, agreed on key refinements to the framework, identified provisional work package leadership, and outlined immediate follow-up actions toward formalisation and launch. Closing reflections reaffirmed collective commitment to AFRASIA as a flagship model of Asia-Africa scientific cooperation - anchored in co-design, co-ownership, and impact - and as a concrete step toward reshaping the Global South research agenda through shared leadership and responsibility.
