Landmark paper on human evolution

The Department is exited and proud to announce a new high-profile publication co-authored by our Research Associate Andy Moore. He is part of a team researching the location where anatomically modern humans evolved about 200 000 years ago, prior to migrating to other parts of Africa and the rest of the world. On the basis of mitochondrial DNA evidence the authors were able to track the origins of modern humans to an area in today's Botswana, south of the Sambezi River, a former wetland of the Makgadikgadi–Okavango system. Changes in climate about 130 to 110 thousand years ago led to the migation of groups towards soutwestern and eastern Africa. This publication has made waves on all major news platforms worldwide and is likely to become a cornerstone of research in human evolution.

Congratulations to Andy and his co-workers!
