The Manager: Employee Relations is responsible for the disciplinary process at the university. The Manager playa an advisory role where called upon and monitors employee relations. The Manager further facilitates and ensured sound employee relations, engagement with stakeholders and good working relationships are maintained between line managers and employees. The ER Manager is responsible for the development and monitoring of HR policies, relevant programmes and delivery of necessary training and associated processes related to legislative compliance. The Manager: Discrimination, Harassment and Gender Based Harm handles the effective management of the awareness raising, advocacy and transformation, in respect of discrimination, harassment, gender-based harm and related issues for the Institution. The Manager is responsible for the development and monitoring of related policies, relevant programmes to raise awareness and facilitate the relevant training. In addition, the Manager is responsible for the coordination of harassment, sexual assault and violence complaints, and hands-on victim support. The Manager: Contracts and Plagiarism is responsible for the providing assistance to all stakeholders across the University as regards negotiating, drafting, reviewing and concluding agreements, including grant agreements and contracts. This is not limited to one area of specialisation. It includes, but is not limited to, negotiating, drafting, administering and ‘vetting’/ reviewing contractual agreements and grant agreements. In addition, this includes matters such as research collaboration, confidentiality, material transfer agreements, grant agreements, disclosure and licencing agreements. The Manager will work with Heads of Departments, academics and students to ensure that departments and students have a common understanding of what plagiarism entails, and all departments, institutes, centres, units offering Rhodes University qualifications operate on the basis of a similar understanding of plagiarism when dealing with identified plagiarism cases. The Manager is responsible for the provision of support and training to develop staff and students on detection and avoidance of plagiarism and other forms of academic dishonesty, and further encourage faculties, departments., institutes, centres and units offering Rhodes University qualifications to commit themselves to educating all students thoroughly about the nature of plagiarism as well as the conventions that apply to researching and presenting academic material in their respective disciplines.
A key function of this post is acting as a student prosecutor, investigating cases and assessing contraventions of the student disciplinary code and representing the University as a prosecutor. The student prosecutor shall be responsible for monitoring, implementation and advisory services on student disciplinary matters. Another key aspect of this position is to provide legal services on all aspects of law to stakeholders across the University. Such legal services shall not be limited to one area of specialisation. The person holding this position will remain abreast of legal developments, with special emphasis on issues that may potentially impact upon the University. Associated with this is liaising with Legal Advisors from other universities.
