Sustainability

The strength of the project leadership experience, research profiles and evidence of having successfully managed previous research projects as well as the commitment from colleagues in the Department of Management, together with four PhD associates, creates a strong sustainable foundation for this project. Collaboration is and/or will be established with the Confucius Institute at Rhodes University; the Chinese in Africa/Africans in China Research Network; and other colleagues in South Africa, the USA and in the UK.

Key to the sustainability of this project is to invest in participating scholars who could continue building the research imperative towards a specialist focus area for Rhodes in the international arena.

To build on the Sandisa Imbewu seed funding, applications for external funding will be made to The Leverhulme Trust located in London, UK; the SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) Foundation in USA and ESRC, UK.

Prof Zhao has already successfully gained a funding award from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is currently using this to work with Chinese corporate partners in this research, to conduct high-level interviews in China and to facilitate access in Africa. In addition, Prof Louw has undertaken to work with the Research Office and the Development and Alumni Division at Rhodes University to seek relevant funders in the future. The National Research Foundation (NRF) would be another possibility that needs to be explored.
