Title of research: The influence of organisational culture on high commitment work systems and commitment in Chinese organisations in South Africa.

Supervisor: Theus Louw

Linda is currently a Master of Commerce in Management student at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa. Her general academic areas of interest are in Strategic Human Resource Management, and Change Management and Organisational Development in Africa. “As a young woman from Swaziland, I really believe in the potential of our beautiful African continent.

The culture of organisations has been found in previous research to influence the nature of the organisation’s chosen human resource management practices. My research therefore examines how organisational culture has influenced a specific form of human resource management practices called a high commitment work system. A high commitment work system is a combination of human resource management practices which is aimed at building up the commitment levels of employees. The fact that my research is conducted within a Chinese organisation operating in South Africa, adds novelty to African management research, specifically in the area of cross-cultural management.
