Introduction

All ten hemimerinan species are currently placed in one genus. The order is traditionally treated as a suborder of the earwigs ( Dermaptera). The catalogue follows Hincks (1957), with the caveat that his use of "South Africa" included the countries of southern Africa, while this checklist is restricted to the Republic of South Africa. The distribution and the periods of adult activity are taken from Hinks (1957).
